8 Foods to Improve your IQ

#1 Breakfast
No, we’re not cheating here, we know that breakfast can cover a whole multitude of foods; but what we’re getting at, is that breakfast is actually the most important meal of the day – especially as far as your brain is concerned.

Not only will it ruin your concentration if your mind keeps wandering off-track, thinking about how hungry you feel, but you probably know anyway that the more malnourished we become, the more sluggish out thought processes are.Starting the day with a good breakfast helps to ensure that you’re getting plenty of oxygen to your bloodstream, and oxygen is brain food.

Let’s start off with Greek, or probiotic yogurt. Probiotic yogurt contains cultures of good bacteria which are both great for your gut, and also good for your immune system. If you sprinkle on some flax seeds, (which are high in fiber), and some fresh fruit and berries, which are high in antioxidants, (especially blueberries), then you’re giving yourself a great start the day with a dose of complex carbohydrates that will digest slowly, and dish their the energy out throughout the morning. This will help to prevent your concentration from wondering off-track.
#2 Walnuts
One of the most important substances for brain health is omega-3 fatty acids. Not only are they are essential for normal, healthy brain function, but depression, and certain other cognitive degenerating conditions are related to omega-3 deficiency. A great source of omega-3 is the humble walnut.

Now we’re not talking about Walnuts simply because they look a little bit like your brain (but they do your know). We’re talking about them because they are great source of omega-3. They are also capable of raising your levels of Melatonin by 300%, which will help to avoid feelings of drowsiness and any tendencies you might have towards insomnia.

If you do indeed have problems falling asleep, then a snack of Walnuts just before you go to bed is a great little cure.Walnuts are also good for your health in general, containing a high level of Antioxidants, Folic acid, and Vitamin E; more so than any other nut. There are great source of nutrition and help to reduce Cholesterol and improve heart health.
#3 Egg Yoke
Natural foods and brain power (supercharge your brain), come together well in the form of an egg; egg yolk in particular. As well, as all of the zillions of vitamins and minerals that eggs contain, (check out this link for details) they also contain a substance known as Choline, a nutrient that is not contained in many other foods, but which supports many diverse brain functions including memory.

In addition to Choline being a great brain food, it is also essential for the normal functioning of every cell in your body. Although our bodies manufacture Choline as part of normal body function, supplementing your body’s levels is no bad thing, particularly for expectant moms. Studies in animals have indicated that insufficient levels of Choline during pregnancy can degrade the offspring’s memory capabilities.Although eggs are best eaten raw in order to get the full benefit of their nutritional content, this is not recommended during pregnancy. They are better eaten lightly boil
#4 Avocados
Avocados are a great source of Oleic acid, a monounsaturated fat that is able to enrich the Myelin layer that covers your brain cells. Any damage to this Myelin coating results in a deterioration of the brain’s ability to send chemical and electrical signals to the various parts of your body. This can lead to a decline in both physical and cognitive function.

Avocados are one of the world’s super foods, being not only rich in monounsaturated fats, but also containing good sources of protein and fiber. Avocados are also great for helping to slow down the signs of ageing. For more information check out this page on naturalnews.com
#5 Fish
Did your mom ever tell you that eating food would make the brainy? Well, if she did, it appears she was right. Fish is another great source of Omega-3 fatty acids, particularly oily fish such as Mackerel, Salmon, Sardines, and Tuna.

The forms of Omega-3 that fatty fish flesh contains are Eicospaentaeonic and Docosahexaeonic acids, both of which are acids that exist naturally in your brain. Supplementing the levels of these acids can increase both cognitive and memory functions according to the University of Maryland.
#6 Tomato
Tomatoes contain a powerful antioxidant known as Lycopene. As with all antioxidants, Lycopene is able to destroy free radicals that can otherwise damage cells, bringing about the onset of illnesses such as Alzheimer’s and dementia.

#7 Pumpkin SeedsPumpkin seeds are another delicious food that are great for increasing brain health and facilitating a higher IQ. They are known to be able to combat depression by decreasing inflammation in the brain through the Tryptophan amino acid that they contain.

They also help to prevent kidney stones from forming, can relieve pain as an anti-inflammatory, can help to lower cholesterol, can help to stave off osteoporosis, and are great for skin, nail, and hair care.
#8 Broccoli
When it comes to the foods that increase brain health and facilitate raising IQ levels, Broccoli is a winner. It contains vitamin K which is essential for proper brain function and can also help to delay the development of dementia. It is also a great source of vitamins C and is high in antioxidants too.

Recent research on animals has revealed that Sulforaphane, (a substance that naturally occurs in Broccoli can help to preserve the condition of the blood brain barrier, and help to repair it when damaged.

The Springboard to a Higher IQ
The association between certain foods and brain power (supercharge your brain power) is clear. Whether they will help to actually increase your IQ is a matter of some debate. But one thing they can do is to help your brain to be as healthy as possible, which will then give you the springboard you need to pole vault your IQ up to the highest levels.
