CAPACITY BUILDING

Any plant cannot grow unless it is in the environment that allows it to do so. Same applies to Career, it has to be built. It has to grow so that, as an individual you can stand forth to achieve success.

tyftanzania

A career can be defined as a person's progress or general course of action through life or through a phase of life. It is a profession or undertaking.

100% commitment, proper timing, good relationship & connections, and integrity can be among things that create favorable environment for a successful career building.

In the course of studying, there are levels which I suppose many of us had passed through. The primary school level, the ordinary level, advanced level or diploma, and the undergraduate level. As we go higher in our educational level, we found our studies narrowing to our choosing. That is part of building our career, and many of us at the lowest level of education ought to be doctors, pilots, and many other known & trembling professions’ of the kind but things have changed by now! Progress chose for us!

career

We have to understand that every profession has its uniqueness and importance to the society. You are needed for whom you have chosen to be! The way you sell out yourself to the corporates puts you in either a win situation or a losing position. You have to choose wisely on how to boost your career to its uniqueness. Here are some tips!
  •  Build good relationship and connections with anyone who can affect your career. The lecturers, supervisors, fellow colleagues, the alumni, ‘companies’  etc etc
  • Be committed in building your profession. If there occurs any opportunity which will take you to the next level of your profession like an opening for post graduate studies, a short time training session, internship opportunity, online training/mentoring etc, then do not hesitate to take it. This brings us to the next tip:
  •  Add to your CV as many things as you can, they will come to matter in the end.
  •  Do as many professional exams as you can. If you have all the necessities to do the exams, then do them. Failures occur, but do not give up. Try harder, and look upon other routes which might be easy but have the same goals as yours. These professional exams have their significance in the corporate world.
  •  In any company you work for, any corporate training you attend, any internship you shall undertake, remember to build your integrity. Do your work in accordance to the company’s vision. Do that, and you shall flourish although it will take some time!
  •  Be creative! This is 21st century, competition is high, and so to raise your standards, you must allow your mind to be open and be creative in solving different problems in the society. Creativity also goes further into development and innovation of products that fit your professional zone.
  •  Be well informed about the corporate world. Read news, go through new regulations & laws set out that affect your profession. Be updated!  This will stretch your creativity.

These are the very few essential tips that will help build your profession. As I was writing this article, I had a question in my mind that I need to leave it with you…. Is there a difference between a career and a profession?
Thank You!

The Most Important Business Skills Every Youth Must Have

Lets be honest here for a moment, almost every conduct in this 21st Century has got to do with someones business, in one way way or the other. Running your own business means having to wear all different types of hats.

Whether it's your marketing hat, your sales hat, or your general people skills hat, you're going to need to know how to court sales, and on the other side of operations, you are also going to need to know how to run a balanced account and continue to grow your wealth.Though there are many business skills that a successful entrepreneur will have, the following five skills are the ones that you absolutely need to make your business successful:
1. Sales
This one is a no-brainier of course you are going to need sale skills in order to run your business! After all, marketing can drive customers in to your business, but sales are going to be what keeps them coming back and keeps putting money into your pocket. It is no wonder why most entrepreneurs actually come from a sales background!

2. Planning
Taking one bad step can make or break your business, especially when it is still in the early stages of development. Entrepreneurs that are successful with their ventures make a plan and stick to it, thinking out every risk, benefit, and cost of an option available to them.

They also make their plans realistic and factor in things such as time and budget in order to make their plans a reality.
3. Communication
Communication is an underlying skill for many others in business (sales included). Communication is how you will be able to cultivate loyal employees, charm customers into coming back time and time again, and court investors and other sources for increasing revenue for your business.

This skill can also come in handy when dealing with vendors or any other necessary business services that may apply to your venture being friendly to business is a sure-fire way to be treated a little bit better, therefore making at least one aspect of your job a little bit easier.
4. Customer Focus
Successful entrepreneurs keep a narrow focus--on the customer that is paying their bills. They do not forget that everything that they do is for the customer, since the customer is the one that is allowing them to do anything in the first place.

A good business owner will always have time for a customer, whether they have a complaint or praise. Having good customer focus will mean that you see every customer as an opportunity to do better and grow, versus an annoyance or a difficulty.
5. Curiosity
The best business skill has always been a healthy curiosity. This will lead you to look into what your competitors are doing, and it will also allow you to utilize new technologies to the best of your ability to streamline your business and even reach out to new customers.

When the only limit you have is what you can imagine and apply, just about anything is possible.

Son washes his father’s bruised hands, what he finds? I’m in tears!

A young man applied for a job at a large printing company. He passed the first interview and was going to meet the director for the final interview. The director saw his resume and it was excellent.

At the interview, the director asked, ‘have you received a scholarship for school?’

The young man replied, ‘no’.

‘Was it your father who paid for your studies?’ asked the director.

‘Yes,’ replied the young man.

‘Where does your father work?’ asked the director.

‘My father is a Blacksmith,’ replied the young man. The director asked the young man to show him his hands. He showed a pair of soft and perfect hands.

‘Have you ever helped your parents at their job?’ asked the director.

The young man said, ‘never, my parents always wanted me to study and read more books. Besides, he can do the job better than me.’

The director responded,’ I have a request- when you go home today….go wash your father’s hands and then come to see me tomorrow morning.’

As the young man felt his chances of getting the job were high, he decided to agree with him. When he returned home to his house, he asked his father if he would allow him to wash his hands. His father felt strange yet happy and showed his hands to his son. His son washed his hands slowly. It was his first time that he noticed that his father’s hands were wrinkled and had many scars. Some bruises were so painful that his skin shuddered when he touched them.

This was the first time his son recognized what it meant for this pair of hands to work every day…to be able to pay for his studies. The bruises on the hands were the price that his father paid for his son’s education…his school activities and his future.

After cleaning his father’s hands, the young man stood in silence and began to tidy and clean up the workshop. That night, the father and son talked for a long time.

The next morning, the young man returned to the director’s office. The director noticed the tears in the eyes of the young as he asked: ‘Can you tell me what you did and what you learned yesterday at your house?’

The young man replied: ‘I washed my father’s hands and when I finished I stayed and cleaned his workshop. Now I appreciate and recognize that without my parents, I would not be who I am today. By helping my father, I now realize how difficult and hard it is to do something on my own. I have come to appreciate the importance and the value in helping the family.’

The director said, ‘this is what I look for in my people. I want to hire someone who can appreciate the help of others…a person who knows the hardship of others to do things…and a person who does not put money as their only goal in life”. ‘You are hired!’

Children who always get what they want, develop ‘I have the rightmentality…and always put themselves first, ignoring the efforts of their parents. If we are this type of protective parent are we really showing love…or are we destroying our children?

These type of parents may feel like they are showing love to their children but they are actually destroying them. It’s great to give your children a great life, but when you’re washing the floor…or painting the wall, please let the experience that too. After eating, have them wash the dishes with their brothers and sisters.

The most important thing is that your children learn to appreciate your efforts…to experience the difficulties and to learn the ability to work with others to get things done.

Thank You!

Habit, if not resisted becomes necessity.

It is said that early to bed and early to rise makes a man health, wealthy and wise. Early to bed and early to rise is a good habit. A habit means repetition of the same action in similar circumstances.

All men have habits. There are good and bad habits. They are of different kinds. Habits are acts which men indulge in to satisfy their needs. These habits are developed or learn from different sources. Drinking water, taking breakfast, lunch and dinner and sleeping at nights are habits, based on instinct.

We are social beings. We cannot live in isolation. We need each other to survive. In doing so, we all should have a sense of choice. Ability to choose good habits so as to fit in the society. Respecting elders, wishing good morning, good evening, good night are good habits.

Men live in groups. These groups can influence some habits. Alcoholism, drug abuse, carelessness, disrespect, having no fear that God exists are bad habits that can be acquired from groups.

There are other bad habits which an individual develop without any external influence. Human body is vulnerable to sweet things. It addicts badly and integrates its urges to your psych. It wishes for good things to satisfy its needs….to pursue its happiness. Making your mentality also vulnerable to think right. Lying to you that it’s the best thing to do for the time. It tells you….take a sip to calm yourself down….or have sex….you are grown up and human after all. Celebrate with vodka…cheers for the success.. you are young, wild and free for thinking right. When your body lies to your mind. It then makes the bad to be good, and to be the needs of the soul. And because all men need happiness and peace, the fight of the body needs and soul finally end with most of the youth choosing bad habits.

We choose not to study hard, work hard. We choose to waste the time we have to getting easy money, engaging in illegal businesses. Yes, life is hard. But do the choice we make to survive lead to a good end or a dead end? Can’t you really stay alive whilst abstaining from all those?

If you feel you can’t, then don’t addict, don’t make it a need in your life. You were born with only three needs in your life, food, clothes and shelter. If you would like to add other needs, choose the good ones. Choose praying hard, exercising, working hard, concentration and discipline to be the needs of the soul and not otherwise.

Education is based on the principle of habit formation. Repetition makes learning easy. Learning a language i.e. speaking, reading and writing is based on habit. Once you learn to quit, it becomes a habit. Similarly education helps in the development of good habits like punctuality, attention, concentration, cooperation, discipline etc. Excelling in your education is both a habit and a developer of other good habits.

Smoking, drinking alcohol, drugging, speaking untruth, teasing the weak, committing acts of theft may all be considered as bad habits. Habits are easy to acquire but difficult to give up. They have a great hold on people and are not easily broken. So it is better not to acquire a bad habit than try to give it up later.

Good habits lead to good manners. Good manners give us good friends; good friends mean good environment; good environment leads to a happy and peaceful life.
